Sandboxing limitation for Sparkbox on Mac App Store.

Not long ago, since Apple introduced the Sandboxing rules to Mac App Store, it brought lots of changes to both us and the customers. According to the latest Sandboxing limitation for Mac App Store. All third party applications can only access the allowed folders. Take Sparkbox for example, customers used to be able to create their library on any locations as they wish to, like Documents folder, Remote Disks, or even Cloud folders like Dropbox, and now we can not do that anymore as all accesses to the public folders  are denied by Sandboxing.  Only the following location is allowed for Sparkbox to access:
Users/library/containers/com.icyblaze.Sparkbox/Data/
(This locations is a hidden path, you may watch this guide below to show this location in your Mac:http://www.wikihow.com/See-Hidden-Folders-on-Mac-OS-X-and-Other-Recent-Models)

So, for those who had problems to start the latest Sparkbox on 10.8, please RELOCATE your library to the pointed location above to keep using Sparkbox.  And if you’d like to store your image resources on other places. Please choose our Download version of Sparkbox at: http://www.icyblaze.com/sparkbox

    Hello!
I really love your apps (both iDocument and Sparkbox have become important and useful to me), and I am a satisfied customer. But, some of your releases are a little bit rough and lack some testing and polish (and proofreading, too :) .
I think this information should have been clearly available when updating the software. I can understand sandboxing added lots of limitations, but there was probably a more elegant solution to inform your users than repeated crashes (a first launch window to explain all those steps, for example :) .

  2. I like to use Dropbox, but i only have licence for the App Store version. Can you provide me the licence for the download version? I think that is fair.

Me too, won’t be buying any more apps from the App Store. Am I right in thinking that only App Store apps have sandboxing?

  4. Vinicius Dallacqua says:

I achieved a workaround with the sandbox limitations:

Copy the contents inside the default Sparkbox library folder (~/Library/Containers/com.icyblaze.Sparkbox/) to a folder inside of your dropbox folder (eg.: Sparkbox Lib), remove the default Sparkbox library folder and make a symbolic link on it’s place pointing to the Sparkbox lib folder inside of your Dropbox folder, like this:

    ln -s ~/Dropbox/SparkboxLibrary ~/Library/Containers/com.icyblaze.Sparkbox

Do that in every machine you want to sync your sparkbox library via dropbox and be happy :) .
